I love working in squares, and this canvas is almost square. It offers up a range of challenges though. The composition can get awkward as there is no defined length or width, but there is also a variety of solutions and interesting ways of resolving the square format. This painting was inspired by the dry landscape that surrounds a small rural town on the Darling Downs in South East Queensland. It was here that we set up camp for a 5 day horse trek along the Condamine River and through Cunningham’s Gap. The cool morning mists that soften the deep blue mountain ranges in the distance, the smell of eucalypt and the quiet country life are always something that I treasure and love to share through my art.
