This painting is a record and an impression of a beautiful natural bush reserve currently owned and maintained by the Brisbane City Council. This bushland is now under threat of development from the expansion of a local retirement village in the popular Brisbane Bayside suburb of Lota close to where I used to live. The bush reserve is high up on a hill overlooking the bay and is an important habitat for birds and local wildlife. It is a quiet, secluded strip that has mature gums and native grasses and shrubs planted and maintained by the locals. There is a little sign “Caramel Lane” that is embedded and partially obscured in the trunk of a eucalypt tree if ever you go there.
