On a recent research trip to the Coastal environs of Lake Curramundi in South East Queensland I spent time exploring the idea of memory, place, and experience in particular Australian landscapes. The coastal melaleucas have sculptural twisted branches and paper like bark with hardy leaves and tiny nuts that grow in small clusters. The sand dunes are protected with the purple flowering Railroad Vine. It searches across the dunes with its long tentacles and pushes up thick green leaves on its trajectory.
My practice is a constant search for beauty, and I am drawn to the emotional connection that I feel with the bush. I am trying to record my feelings about particular places through the lens of emotion and presence.
