The Western Australian coastline is vast and remote, but it a reputation for pristine coastal beaches and bays that lie sheltered from the Indian Ocean. Coral Bay is a small coastal community that is located about 120 km from Exmouth and is Australia’s only fringing reef, which means that the coral starts right at the water’s edge. It is within the Ningaloo Marine Park Conservation area and a perfect location to snorkel, scuba dive and kayak in its sheltered waters. In this large painting I have chosen a cooler colour palette of aqua blues and greens through to cool yellows and oranges to reflect the sub-tropical climate and shallow clear waters.
