The Granite Belt on the Darling Downs is centred on the thriving town of Stanthorpe. I often drive out to walk through the granite outcrops of Girraween National Park and to explore the wineries and orchards that populate the region. Every second year Stanthorpe has an Apple and Grape festival and a well established regional art gallery that is worth a visit.
Along the edges of the highway and scattered across the grassy hillsides are delicate purple and white wildflowers. They sprinkle their petals through the apple orchards and underneath the overhanging canopy of Stringy Barks and Apple Box eucalypts. My intention with this work was to capture the creamy grasses of the plains and the atmospheric blues of the distant mountains and to highlight the wildflowers of the area.
