Indigo Bay was a commissioned work based on a combination of two smaller paintings; Opal Cove and Emerald Cove. The clients requested a piece that has lots of bright colours particularly blue and purple hues throughout. They also wanted the surf life saving flags to feature and the silver leaf effect along the shoreline. They chose a composition that had the ocean at the bottom of the work.  The emotive mark making of Cy Twoombly’s scribble paintings are always an inspiration and aerial view photographs of beach life provide great reference material. If you would like to commission a painting like this one, please refer to the commissions page. I so enjoy painting large works because of the challenge of thinking big in terms of composition but also the time it takes to focus on the detail can be meditative and very rewarding.
