The inspiration for this series of works comes from a trip to Canberra, followed closely by a trip to Kyoto in the Sakura season. Cherry blossom trees have been thoughtfully planted on the footpaths lining Anzac Parade in Canberra. They are a symbol of peace and a celebration of Spring and new beginnings. When growing alongside the quintessential Australian Ribbon Bark trees with their dark green leaves and paper bark in ribbons hanging from the branches it becomes a intriguing compositional challenge of marrying these two cultures.
