Winter Timberline has a mix of both abstract and realism and is the next series of works that have been developed from the 2016 landscape paintings. One of the most difficult things to resolve is trying to unify the abstract, flatness of silver leaf, patterns and shapes with the more 3-dimensional realistic subject matter. I think that the late Western Australian artist/painter, Robert Juniper did it very successfully and developed his own voice through the ornamental and the abstract. This work is another of my attempts at discovering the abstract through aerial-view landscape. So much of the composition relies on the dimensions of the linen and also the flow of paint as it is poured and guided around the surface before settling into place. From there, the composition is somewhat fluid until the right balance of colour and shape is created.
